Students are preparing for the big spaghetti bridge competition in Kelowna.
On Friday morning at the Okanagan College Kelowna campus more than 160 competitors from elementary schools, secondary schools, and post-secondary schools will be competing to see who can build the strongest bridge.
Students had to pre-register for the 33rd annual event by February 19th, to be able to take part in the construction.
The elementary students taking part in the competition are encouraged to build a replica of the Confederation Bridge that links New Brunswick to Prince Edward Island. Bridges can be made out of pasta, popsicle sticks, and glue. These bridges will not be tested on weight, but will be displayed during the rest of the event.
Secondary school students have the task of building a bridge that is capable of holding 1 kg, while post-secondary students have to try to create a bridge that can hold 2 kg.
There will be a heavyweight competition where spaghetti architects have to build a bridge that is capable of holding as much weight as possible.
Cash prizes will be up for grabs for secondary school and post-secondary school students.
The spaghetti bridge competition will begin on March 4th at 9:30 a.m.
