The culinary community is mourning the sudden loss of the well-known and talented executive chef at Manteo Resort.
Chef Brad Horen was recently given a life changing diagnosis but sadly his life ended all too soon. Smack Dab and Manteo Resort made the announcement of Horen’s passing via social media calling him not only an amazing chef but a great friend and team member. Horen leaves behind a wife and two daughters.
“From Sous Chef to Executive Chef, Brad earned his place as one of BC’s most talented Chefs. He was a successful Chef of the Year, Iron Chef competitor, multi-medalist at the Culinary Olympics, winner of countless awards and a multi-year Captain of the Canadian Culinary Team,” said the resort in a statement.
Horen was appointed executive chef of the resort in 2013 shortly after the Smack Dab kitchen and lounge was launched. With two decades of culinary expertise, Horen is well-known in Canada’s culinary scene. He has served former presidents, famous hockey players, and everyone in between.
There has been an outpouring of support from people who knew the well-liked chef as people have been sharing memories and photos. Calling his death a tragedy, many say they are extremely saddened to hear the news, but also happy to have known him and will take pleasure in cherished memories.
Manteo Resort will hold a celebration of life on Wednesday, March 23rd from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. with friends and colleagues welcomed to come share their memories of Chef Brad Horen.
