For the first time in Kelowna’s history, a sitting Premier will walk in the ‘We Are One’ pride march on Aug. 13, 2016.
The Okanagan Pride Society has confirmed that Christy Clark will be in attendance for the march which starts at Stuart Park and ends in City Park where the festival will be held.
"We were thrilled to find out she wanted to march with us! Our theme this year is We Are One; with everything thing that's been going on in the world, to have her show her support and attend, is amazing," said president Sydney Lawson.
The premier is not expected to speak at the end, nor has it been confirmed if she will attend the festival that the march leads to, but Lawson hopes that Clark will take in all the festivities on Saturday.
"We all know politics is tough, so for her to show her support of the LGBTQ+ community and being able to do it here with us, well, we are very pleased to have her,” Lawson explained.
The march will be lead by MP Stephen Fuhr and include politicians such as Kelowna Mayor Colin Basran and Penticton Mayor Andrew Jakubeit. Those interested in participating are asked to meet at Stuart Park by 10:45 a.m. with the march scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. sharp. For the up to date details please visit the Facebook page.
