Rutland Park Society president and director Todd Sanderson has issued a formal letter to announce that he’ll be officially resigning from those positions on Thursday.
“The current situation is untenable for me personally and I simply cannot continue,” he wrote. “Despite my efforts to find a consensus, the remaining Director on the Board has refused to accept legal advice that my presence is required at all Board meetings. So I choose to resign today.”
KelownaNow contacted Sanderson, but he declined further comment. (Click here to view his letter.)
In the letter, he mentions initiatives that he’s seen through that he sees as positive, like transferring the Park to the City, drumming up Roxby Park for the weekly community market and rejuvenating May Days to raise money for the Rutland Centennial Hall.
In the end, transferring the Park to the City was not supported by all Board members, though Sanderson argues it helped protect and improve the property.
Since receiving the money from the City, accusations have been thrown around against the Board.
In May of this year, the Board fired both the bookkeeper and Treasurer of the Society. Sanderson said the society requested to look at the books and records but was rejected.
“Something is not right. There are clear issues that will only be resolved by an independent investigation,” continued Sanderson. “These records belong to the Society. To have withheld for so long is wrong and has hurt the Society.
“If there is nothing to hide, only a professional independent review will verify that and permit the Society and its new board to move on.”
As president, Sanderson called a Special Meeting for Aug. 23, and is still strongly urging everyone to speak up and ask questions at the meeting.
