Child care may have just gotten a bit easier because a new family hub has opened in Kelowna.
This is one of the province’s new BC Early Years Centres and it’s located at Kelowna’s Pearson Road Elementary School. The hub will help parents and guardians of children in Kelowna access to early learning, health and family services.
“We are very excited to open the doors to the Family Hub at Pearson Road Elementary – a one-stop-shop where families are at the centre of all services,” said Ellen Boelcke, Executive Director for Kelowna Community Resources.
“We believe that investing in the early years is where we can make the biggest impact – early prevention pays back tenfold. It is our vision to transform young lives for future success.”
The new hub has been formed as a collaborative network of local agencies that take pride in support local families. It’s a concept that is used throughout the province and Kelowna’s hub is one of 47 in B.C.
Not only has this one opened in Kelowna, but Westbank First Nation has also been designated by the province as an Early Years Centre and that one will be opening in the near future.
“The creation of this community hub will help bring people together to tackle complex problems through a neighbourhood lens,” said Norm Letnick, MLA for Kelowna-Lake Country.
“United Way is a valuable partner and a champion for a robust community here in Kelowna, and I am honoured to be able to work with them as we strive toward a stronger Kelowna and a stronger British Columbia.”
United Way Central & South Okanagan/Similkameen has committed to funding $97,000 annually for three years for the centre.
The Family Hub is open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the grand opening scheduled for late September.
