Some people may be sad to see summer go, but for others, winter means a chance to hit the slopes.
For you eager skiers and snowboarders, good news! Big White has turned into a winter wonderland.
According to Big White senior VP Michael J. Ballingall, if it's raining in Kelowna this time of year, like it has been all morning Monday, that means it's snowing on the mountain.
In fact, today brings their second snow fall of the season so far, after a pretty good dumping last week.
"Having worked at Big White for over 25 years, you still get excited when you see snow," Ballingall said. "Everyone is very excited, anticipating the opening."
On their webcams, snow is seen covering the mountainous runs.
Ballingall said everyone is getting ready for the ski season. They finished selling early bird passes over the weekend, but are now selling pre-season passes.
They aren’t scheduled to open for the 2016/17 season until Nov. 24, 2016, but Ballingall said they have opened for Halloween once in their history.
Once they get 70 to 100 cm of snow, that's when they are able to get skiers out on the slopes.
"We're very optimistic that if the snow stays, and freezes, we'll be able to open early," said Ballingall.
Their official snow reporting will begin in November.
