Kelowna's welcome sign is about to come down

The ‘Welcome to Kelowna’ sign at the east end of town is about to be removed.

The sign will be dismantled on Tuesday, February 21st to make room for the work that’s about to begin on Highway 97.

The removal of the sign will accommodate the construction needed to widen Highway 97 to six lanes between Highway 33 and Edwards Road.

The project also includes upgrades to major intersections in the area, including Leathead, McCurdy, Findlay/Hollywood and Sexsmith Roads.

There’s also a realignment of Rutland Road planned to reduce congestion and increase separation between Highway 97 and Rutland Road.

The project is expected to be completed in the fall and a new Kelowna entrance feature will be identified in the future.
