A suspicious item was safely removed from the entrance of a Kelowna bank over the weekend.
At about 4:20 p.m. on Sunday, Kelowna Fire Dispatch received a call from RCMP requesting assistance with an unknown package that was found in the ATM area of the Bank of Montreal on Dilworth Drive.
When the units arrived, they found a 4-5 L jug of liquid with a hose coming out of the top of it and a plastic wrap lid held on with an elastic.
The Kelowna Fire Department Hazardous Materials Team Leader was called to the scene to assess the package.
Using a thermal imaging camera, they determined that the package was not giving off a heat signature.
RCMP received some pictures from the ATM security camera which showed two people bringing the container into the bank. Police believe that after they re-arranged their belongings, they just forgot to take the container with them.
Two members of the Hazmat team donned A-level suits and packed the item in a plastic containment barrel.
The Ministry of Environment was called to arrange disposal of the package and the Kelowna Fire Department remained on scene until the package was removed.
