Losing a pet is one of the most difficult things a person can go through in life.
It can leave you with unresolved grief that can be so painful and make living your day-to-day life a challenge.
As a result, Okanagan Pet Cremation has created a monthly pet loss grief support group in Kelowna that will help people cope with the loss of their furry friends.
"Sharing stories of grief and mourning together in a supportive atmosphere with others who have experienced similar losses lets people know they are not alone,” says Cammie Ouellette, who will facilitate the sessions.
"When we lose a beloved pet, it helps to acknowledge our loss, and express our grief to work through our pain. These informal get togethers will allow people to mourn the loss of their pet with others in a comfortable, understanding atmosphere."
The first meeting will be held between 7-8:30 pm on Wednesday, Aug. 21 at Malachite Midwives Clinic (1955 Bowes St.).
Anyone who’s struggling with the loss of their pet is welcome to come and share as much or as little as they’d like.
You’re also encouraged to share photos, memorabilia or anything else to honour the unique relationship you might have had with your pet.
While the sessions are free, anyone interested in attending is encouraged to RSCP in advance since space is limited.
You can do so by calling Ouellette at 250-863-8163 or emailing her at griefsupport@okanaganpetcremation.ca.
