There are no immediate plans for Barn Owl Brewing to purchase neighbouring business It's A Bakery.
Owners of both establishments released a joint statement today, saying that they were "forced" to address the situation after ill-informed stories were published about the brewery purchasing the bakery.
In a statement sent out by Barn Owl co-owners Gary Brucker and Tim Kramer, along with co-owners of It's a Bakery, Holger and Joachim Nierfeld, the parties stated that "a number of local news outlets published stories without contacting us for any confirmation of the contents of their articles."
KelownaNow did not publish a story on the subject.
While the brewery acknowledged that there was an application filed by them with the City of Kelowna, it was "a step of due diligence to see what might be possible."
The parties mentioned that there's been a conversation taking place about a "mutually beneficial transaction between the two business, but they have been in the ownership level only, with neither party trying to force the other out."
They then mentioned that they wanted to reassure the public that "no matter the outcome of our conversations, a bakery will remain part of the historic Surtees Barn and that coffee and baked good fixes will be taken care of as they have been over the past almost four years."
The two businesses wrapped up the statement, hoping to see people "in the near future enjoy a coffee and pastry at the bakery or a beer and flatbread at the bar."
