(UPDATE: Dec. 3 @ 8:25 am) - The man who abandoned his flipped vehicle after a single-vehicle crash on Glenmore Road Wednesday night was ticketed, the RCMP confirmed to KelownaNow.
He received a pair of tickets, one for driving without due care and the other for failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
The Lake Country RCMP was called to the scene around 9 pm on Wednesday.
Officers found a red Mazda MX-3 that had left the road and struck the ditch and fence before coming to a stop, but the driver had already fled the scene.
Central Okanagan Search and Rescue was called in to search for the man and the dog team eventually tracked him to his residence shortly before 2 am.
(Original story: Dec. 2 @ 1:20 pm) - Central Okanagan Search and Rescue was called out to its 98th task of 2021 on Wednesday night and it was a bizarre incident to say the least.
The Lake Country RCMP called COSAR to help find a man who had walked away from a single-vehicle crash.
“The male was driving north on Glenmore Road when he lost control and ended up flipping the vehicle into an orchard,” explained COSAR.
“He managed to extract himself but could not be located by Lake Country Fire Department nor the RCMP at the scene.”
Emergency crews believed the man may have suffered a serious injury, which is why COSAR was called out just before midnight.
Eleven members, including the dog team, responded to the area and searched the surrounding orchard and fields.
The dog team was able to follow the missing man’s tracks to his home, where he was found.
COSAR did not provide any further details on why the man might have ditched his car following the single-vehicle crash.
