Center of Gravity kicks off 10th anniversary with a stellar opening night

Center of Gravity kicked off their 10th year on Friday with a killer night of rad mixes, and heavy bass drops courtesy of an insane line up of electronic music artists.

A day that catered to everyone, each artist fused together different genres, from 80’s pop and 90’s R&B to punk and jazz, creating an environment anyone could feel welcome in.

Up and coming mix master, W3PLAY took the first spot on the main stage. After winning the AGNT Breakthrough tour contest, W3PLAY is making his festival debut here in Kelowna.

With a simple bass guitar, loop pedal and sound board, W3PLAY brought a unique rock infused set to the crowd, even taking the time to pay tribute to the late Chester Bennington.

Next came yet another eclectic act, Dirty Radio. With live percussion and impeccable vocals, the Vancouver natives brought their R&B zested electro to Kelowna with a fiery, synth ridden force.

Always moving and grooving, these guys kept it going their whole set with their blast from the past house sound and the crowd was eating it up and having a blast.

Now, one thing that is hard to do as a Dj is interacting with a crowd while you’re behind the tables, Shaun Frank, however, is a major exception.

Before he even fully started his first track he was on the table urging everyone to jump, and they did just that. With bass drenched mixes that made the ground shake, Shaun Frank’s set was hotter than the Okanagan heat.

Honestly it was hard to tell who enjoyed themselves more, Frank or the hundreds of EDM-hungry fans in the concert bowl.

Coming out waving their flag proudly, Cash Cash was not about to let the excitement plateau. Though they were down a member, their mixes and original creations uplifted the entire area bringing positive energy and good vibes in abundance.

Before heading off stage, the guys gave fans a particularly sweet treat as they serenaded them with an acoustic version of “Wonderwall”. Leaving hearts full and hype levels high, Cash Cash made for the perfect duo to wake up the crowd just in time for headliner, Marshmello.

The time had finally arrived, mysterious helmet-wearing edm monster Marshmello, was about to hit the stage and let me tell you, the hype was real.

When thousands of people are chanting one name, you can’t help but feel a rush of anticipation and excitement. In the moments leading up to his on stage arrival, the man in white whispered “Canada” and from that point on the crowd lost their minds.

A light show that was enough to transfix you completely alongside a set list that featured everything from remixes of today’s top 40’s to 90’s punk-rock, if Marshmello wasn’t already nestled into your heart his live, bass thumping and heart pumping musical creations would soon have him there.

One of the most anticipated headliners on the bill, attendees could be seen far and wide sporting Marshmello t-shirts and helmets, and his set did not disappoint.

With a new festival set-up featuring a larger concert bowl, ideal weather and a sick line-up of artists, it is safe to say Center Of Gravity 2017 is going to be fire.
