(UPDATE: 12:25 p.m.) - Nate from Canoe Coffee Roasters has told KelownaNow that the estimated cost of this weekend's break in looks to be in the $5,000 range.
As for when the business will reopen its new space to the public, it's still up in the air.
"We can't tell for sure just yet, but we're hoping to reopen by next Monday," he said. "It could be sooner or later, we're just not sure yet."
In the meantime, a friend of the business, Dan from The Local Chemist, has created a GoFundMe to help the local coffee company cover some of the costs.
That GoFundMe, which has a fundraising goal of $5,000, can be found here.
(UPDATE: 11:25 a.m.) - Kelowna RCMP have provided more information to KelownaNow about a weekend break in at Canoe Coffee Roasters' brand new location.
Cpl. Jesse O'Donaghey says police were called to the business around 6:30 a.m. on Monday.
The break in is believed to have happened at some point between when Canoe closed on Saturday night and when it was discovered on Monday morning.
"Police believe that the suspect or suspects gained entry into the building through a rear glass door," explained O'Donaghey. "Once inside, they removed electronic items and a portable safe."
Anyone with information on the break in is being asked to contact the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300 and cite police file 2019-1081.
(Original story: 9:30 a.m.) - What was supposed to be a weekend of celebration for Canoe Coffee Roasters has turned into a week of “repairs, cleanup, equipment replacement and enhanced security.”
The popular Kelowna coffee company opened the doors to its new and improved location on Saturday and the community came out in droves to support it.
However, there was at least one unwanted visitor on opening weekend, as the new location was broken into and left in bad shape.
“We are so frustrated and devastated to say that someone broke into the shop over the weekend and did a number on our beautiful new space,” said a social media post from Canoe.
“Such an incredible disappointment after the high of our opening day.”
In the post, Canoe offered its apologies for anyone who was looking forward to visiting the new space and estimates that it will be closed for the week.
“Thanks so much for your patience - we will keep you all posted!”
Once Canoe does reopen the new space, you’ll be able to check it out at 984 Laurel Ave.
