The votes are in, and seven school trustees have been elected to take a seat on the Central Okanagan School Board.
ParentsVoice BC, which ran in eight different school districts across the province, didn’t nab a single spot in School District 23.
While one person was acclaimed, only two new faces will be taking a seat on the Central Okanagan board while the other four are incumbents.
In Kelowna, Julia Fraser, Wayne Broughton, Lee-Ann Tiede and Val Johnson were all elected, with Johnson being the only new trustee.
In Lake Country, Amy Geistlinger was acclaimed.
In West Kelowna, incumbent Chantelle Desrosiers took the seat.
In Peachland and for the Central Okanagan West Electoral area, Lisa Guderyan replaced Moyra Baxter, who was the former Board Chair.
The four ParentsVoice BC candidates running for SD23, Chris Fieber, Tovey Demman, Teresa Docksteader in Kelowna and Laurie Bowen in West Kelowna, struck out in the vote.
Their “Take Back our Schools” motto wasn’t enough to score parents' votes, as many candidates planned to make changes around what they believed to be "hot-button issues."
That included their opposition to school materials that spoke about sexual orientation and gender identity.
Across the board, ParentsVoice BC didn’t seem to have much luck in the election as they were wiped out across six of the eight school districts. Only two candidates made it in Nechako Lakes along with one in Chilliwack.
The detailed results for SD23 School Trustees are as followed.
