A collaboration project between UBC Okanagan and CTQ Consultants will make it much easier to find a trendy background for that next Instagram photo.
Known as the “Kelowna Mural Map” it serves as an easy-to-use online directory showing the location of each mural and providing information about the artist who created it and what it represents.
The map was created by Dianne Gray, an information specialist at CTQ Consultants, after she was inspired watching UBC Okanagan fine-art students create a colourful mural outside the CTQ offices off St. Paul Street.
“Watching UBCO’s fine arts students hard work, integrity and creativity during the creation of our CTQ Legacy Mural, under instructor David Doody, excited and inspired me to explore a way to celebrate and share the areas incredible murals,” said Gray.
Those using the map app can explore multiple new murals in the heart of Rutland, the decades old OK Corral Mural, Lakeshore mural that depicts historical images of the Lower Mission and many more.
"These open-air public galleries add splashes of colour into aging architecture and dark alleyways, breathing new life into their surroundings," says David Doody, a UBC Okanagan instructor.
Currently, CTQ’s GIS mural map is available online using any browser and it can be viewed by clicking here.
