A popular winery in East Kelowna has confirmed this will be their last season.
On Saturday, the owners of Kitsch Wines will be closing their tasting room in October.
“We didn’t make this decision overnight, it’s been a thoughtful one,” said Ria Kitsch, the president of the winery.
“We are excited for a family sabbatical as our focus and attention move from the winery to our family over the next year.”
The winery has been around since 2015 and started with a single Riesling vineyard after the owners sold a majority stake in their first venture, SAXX underwear.
The winery was early to build a social media following and became known for popular summer parties.
Kitsch Wines also won dozens of regional, national and international awards over the past eight years.
To date, the winery has supported several local charities including Mamas for Mamas, the Kelowna Women’s Shelter, the Kelowna Art Gallery and more.
“We have so much gratitude for the community that celebrated with us, supported us, and chose to make memories at Kitsch,” said co-founder Trent Kitsch.
“We wouldn’t have had the community impact or life experience without them.”
Although the winery owners encourage people to stop by and visit before Oct. 8, they say they aren’t necessarily closing down for good.
Ria said they will be taking time for family and will be working on new opportunities for the brand and hope to continue to be part of events and other community initiatives.
“In the meantime, 50% of all tasting fees are being shared with the West Kelowna Firefighter Disaster Relief Fund and the winery is waiting to welcome you,” Ria adds.
