(UPDATE: July 1 @ 8:05 am) - The Canadian flag will fly high above Kelowna city hall today after all.
"Temporary repairs have been made to the flag pole at City Hall, meaning the Canadian flag will be on display this weekend," said a release from the City.
The flag has been temporarily restored to the top of the pole and further repairs will continue next week.
(Original story: June 30 @ 4:15 pm) - Our nation’s flag won’t be raised above city hall for Canada Day this year.
The City of Kelowna revealed this afternoon that there’s a malfunction in the mechanism that raises and lowers the Canadian flag at city hall.
As a result, it will not be on display all weekend and it’s currently stuck at half-mast.
A flag at half mast commands respect from all I I can not believe our City Hall @DowntownKelowna flag has been at half mast for a couple days. Because it is broken. The day before July 1 when when 100s are paying City taxes that could buy a new rope. pic.twitter.com/DlPSTcRtG1

“The specialized service to repair the flag pole’s hoisting mechanism is provided by a Vancouver company that was unable to get to the repair in time for Canada Day,” explained a City release.
Repairs are expected to take place next week.
The City said it wanted to ensure residents and visitors were aware that the repair process is underway and the flag will be displayed in its proper place as soon as possible.
