The Kelowna RCMP had a little fun with what could have been a tragic situation on Thursday afternoon.
With outside temperatures hitting 35°C and 36°C on the thermometer, an officer spotted a pug in distress locked inside a hot SUV.
Cst. Boffy removed the dog from the vehicle and gave it a ride back to the Kelowna RCMP detachment.

The cute pug was dubbed McPuggerson and quickly initiated into the RCMP police dog section.
Sadly, McPuggerson didn’t have the physical prowess to successfully complete police dog training, thus ending his short lived dream of protecting and serving the Kelowna public.
“He was medically cleared by a local vet and turned over to (the RDCO) animal control,” said a tweet from the Kelowna RCMP.

On a 35°C day, it takes just 10 minutes for the inside of a car to get up to 45°C and not even half an hour for temperatures to exceed 50°C.
Thursday’s incident is another reminder to never leave your pets inside a vehicle on even a warm summer day.
