Kelowna is home to the most dangerous intersection in BC’s Southern Interior

Based on ICBC data, you should probably give yourself a pat on the back every time you drive through Kelowna along Hwy 97 unscathed.

On Wednesday, the Crown corporation released its annual data package regarding crashes, auto crime, violation tickets and more.

Part of the data looks at the most dangerous intersections for crashes in various parts of the province and it's unsurprisingly Kelowna that dominates that list in BC’s Southern Interior.

According to ICBC, the Central Okanagan Hub was home to the seven most dangerous intersections in the region in 2024, as well as eight of the top 10.

At the top of the list, by a large margin, is the intersection of Harvey Avenue (Hwy 97) and Dilworth Drive.

Hwy 97 intersections dominate the list, with all but one of the eight Kelowna spots being along the city’s main corridor.

The data shows that the Hwy 97 intersections at Banks Road, Spall Road, Hwy 33, Old Vernon Road, Cooper Road and Burtch Road are also notorious for crashes.

The only Kelowna spot on the list that isn’t along the highway is at Springfield Road where Dilworth Drive turns into Benvoulin Road, just 500 metres south of the region’s most dangerous intersection.

Here’s the full top 10 list of crash intersections for BC’s Southern Interior in 2024:
