The community is feeling the aftermath of a fatal fire in Kelowna this week that claimed the life of a mother.
A GoFundMe has been started for the Van Gool family to help them get through the tragedy.
Bill Henthorn started the campaign after his youngest daughter, who goes to school with the two young boys, was upset by their loss and suggested that they do something to help.
Henthorn says that his two girls lost their own mother two years ago, and the community was there to support them when they needed it. Now he wants to do what he can to pay it forward.
The tragedy has deeply affected the community and after one day the funding page already has more than $3,000 in donations.
Henthorn is in contact with the mother’s daughter, who came from a previous relationship, through a friend of the family in order to give them more privacy in their time of grieving.
“I’m just happy to do it,” says Henthorn. “It’s just devastating, to say the least.”
In addition to the GoFundMe, they are looking for clothing donations for the boys, sizes 6-7 and 10-12. Donations can be brought to Springvalley Elementary or to 835 Rutland Rd North.
If you don’t want to donate on the GoFundMe page, but still wish to contribute, an account has been set up at the TD Canada Trust Plaza 33. You can make a donation there to account number 6535920.
