Four local charities supporting wildfire evacuees received hundreds of dollars in donations form a real estate development company.
Argus Properties, which owns four hotels in Kelowna, took 15% of room sales between Aug. 23 and Sept. 11 and donated it to organizations who stepped up when a trio of wildfires caused thousands of Central Okanagan residents to evacuate in August.
A total of $8,000 was divided up and given to Mamas for Mamas, the BC SPCA Kelowna branch, the Central Okanagan Food bank and the Wilson’s Landing Firefighters Association to support firefighters who lost their own homes to the McDougall Creek wildfire.
“We have been through difficult challenges before but it never ceases to amaze me and humble me to see how good, decent everyday people pitch in without being asked and make such a huge difference,” says Rudolf Heider, director of hospitality for Argus Properties.
“We will continue to stand with our communities whatever comes our way.”
Heider says thousands volunteered but these four organizations provided critical support for desperate people, families and animals.
