Kelowna's Canada Day details announced

City officials gathered at Stuart Park on Thursday in downtown Kelowna to announce the details of this year's Canada Day festivities.

The day will look a little different this year, due to flooding, but the head of Festivals Kelowna, Renata Mills, is rolling with it and hopes others will get in the spirit of the day as well.

One of the changes includes, moving many of the days' events to Water Street to give the beach more time to recuperate.

As Mills says, it will make for "one heck of a street party."

Five different stages will host a variety of acts throughout the day in downtown Kelowna.

As well, the 44th Annual Kelowna Folkfest kicks off on July 1st at Prospera Place.

Doors open at 9:30 a.m. and the multicultural event runs from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Folkfest features dances and performances from Syilx Creations First Nations Dancers, Centre culturel francophone de l'Okanagan, Blakely School of Irish Dance, Okanagan Chinese Canadian Association and much more.

The Ki-Low-Na Friendship Society and Westbank First Nation are hosting a blanket exercise at the grass area between Mill Street and Bernard Avenue on July 1st at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The Kelowna City Concert Band starts up at 7:30 p.m. at Prospera Place. With brief interruptions during the two World Wars, the Kelowna City Concert Band has been running since 1894.

The Kelowna Art Gallery is also joining the party by providing free admission to the public on July 1st.

There's also an opportunity to participate in a box painting activity, but you have to book ahead.

The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The complete list of events for Canada Day in Kelowna can be found at the Festivals Kelowna website.
