One of Kelowna’s most popular summer events, or unpopular depending on who you talk to, has been cancelled due to COVID-19.
Interior Savings Sunrise Rotary RibFest has been cancelled for 2020 and will return in August 2021.
The event attracts thousands of hungry visitors each year and organizers have decided that it wouldn’t be feasible to create a large, safe, family event this year.
Although the most disappointing part for many will be missing out on the ribs, the event has also become a major fundraiser for local charities and organizations.
RibFest has raised over $200,000 in its first four years and had set a target of $100,000 this year.
“We know that the community has more needs during these challenging times and will continue to find ways to fundraise,” said Chris Murphy, RibFest chair.
“We look forward to working with many excellent people and businesses to present RibFest Kelowna August 2021.”
Although RibFest has been cancelled, the Rotary Club of Kelowna Sunrise will still hold the event’s very popular raffle.
Prizes include a year’s worth of groceries from Save-On Foods, a new barbecue from White’s Barbecue and Fireplace Centre, $1,000 cash or a $500 credit to Torino Ritz.
Tickets will go on sale starting in June and more details are still to come.
