In its fourth year of existence, the Orchard Park Shopping Centre’s annual golf tournament raised a record amount.
Over $115,000 was raised for the Canadian Mental Health Association’s Kelowna branch, a new high that brings the four year total to nearly $350,000.
“This year’s donation will go a long way to help provide funding for a new kitchen at CMHA Kelowna’s Wellness Development Centre,” said Donna Markin, GM of Orchard Park Shopping Centre.
“We know the kitchen renovation will expand their ability to aid those in our community by providing the most basic requirement for good mental health - a full tummy!”
All of the funds raised by the tournament and its 136 golfers will go directly to CMHA Kelowna and executive director Shelagh Turner is grateful for Orchard Park’s commitment to a mentally healthy community.
“We are so grateful for this event,” she said. “It is because of people like the Orchard Park team that we are able to make sure that anyone in our community who is struggling, no matter how young or how old, knows they are not alone with CMHA Kelowna.”
Markin says she sees awareness around mental health growing every year and more people are opening up to discuss their struggle.
CMHA Kelowna is part of a network of more than 10,000 CMHA volunteers and staff in over 80 communities across Canada.
