Two Albertans have been arrested after going on what police allege was a “crime spree.”
Police said the man and woman, both from Calgary, were seen in a truck this morning that had been reported stolen in Midway on May 17.
The truck was also connected to an attempted vehicle theft in Kelowna on May 18, the RCMP explained.
Mounties headed to the Pineview area of Kamloops at about 7:30 am this morning after being called about a vehicle theft supposedly being in progress.
When they arrived at Hugh Allan Drive, they found a man entering a grey truck – the same one stolen from Midway – being driven by a woman.
Officers said the driver attempted to evade police when the truck was stopped, causing two police vehicles to be damaged.
“This happened in a residential area, during a time of day when the roadways are especially busy with kids making their way to school and adults travelling to work,” said Cst. Crystal Evelyn.
“By stopping the truck, police were able to prevent it from fleeing the area, which would have increased the risk to public safety and allowed it to continue to be used for criminal activity.”
No one was injured during the collisions.
The two Calgarians are now being held pending a bail hearing.
The woman was also wanted on an Alberta warrant, police said.
She is bound by “numerous” release conditions, the RCMP added, including that she not enter any vehicle without the registered owner being present.
Anyone who has more information related to this investigation is asked to call the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2022-16535.
