Local girls were given a unique opportunity this past week as they participated in the Girls can Go-Kart Too! Day camp hosted at Okanagan College.
The camp offered girls ages nine to 12 a week of hands-on mechanical training from Red Seal Endorsed instructors as they re-built their own go-kart.
Learning everything from mechanical design and automotive aesthetics to changing their own oil and tires, the camp presented them with the opportunity to test drive a career in the trades.
Created as a pilot project by Okanagan College and the Industry Training Authority (ITA), Girls can Go-Kart too! was designed to help build their skills in a shop, connect them with great mentors in the community, and show them that women can succeed in trades, too.
To cap off their week of rebuilding, designing, and painting their racing machines, campers got to show off their four-wheeled beauties to their parents and teachers.
Rolling out and revving up, these mechanics-to-be raced around their specially designed track to show off their first automotive creations.
