UPDATE: Power restored to thousands affected by Kelowna power outage

(UPDATE: April 19 @ 5:30 pm) - Power was restored around 2:30 pm for the remaining 500 FortisBC customers affected by the first of two outages early this afternoon.

There was a second outage in the same area, however, that started almost immediately after the first and affected just over 300 customers. That outage was fixed around 4:40 pm.

FortisBC has not revealed a cause for either outage.


(UPDATE: April 19 @ 2:10 pm) - Power has been restored for most affected by Sunday afternoon's power outage.

According to FortisBC, the lights are back on for 2,286 out of 2,770 affected customers, which means just under 500 remain without power as of 2 pm.

The estimated time of restoration for the remaining homes and business is still 2:30 pm.


(Original story: April 19 @ 12:45 pm) - A power outage in Kelowna is affecting thousands of homes and businesses.

According to FortisBC, the power went out for 2,770 customers at 12:22 pm.

It stretches from the Pandosy and Guisachan area all the way into southeast Kelowna.

The cause of the outage is still listed as unknown.

FortisBC estimates that power will be restored around 2:30 pm.
