More rental housing could be on the way for Kelowna.
In a report headed to Kelowna City Council on Monday, staff will be recommending support for a rezoning application for six properties on Harvey Avenue.
This application was originally received in April 2021, however, the applicant was advised to place the project on hold until the Kelowna 2040 Official Community plan was adopted.
The applicant, Westrich Saucier Developments, is looking to rezone a group of lots between Richter and Ethel streets to the MF3r – Apartment Housing Rental Only zone.
This would make way for a six storey long-term rental apartment building with about 171 units.
The project would include a two storey parkade, which would be accessed from Saucier Avenue, with 189 parking stalls which is just three less than required.
Common amenity spaces are proposed on top of the podium facing east along Saucier and north along Harvey Ave.
Staff are supportive of the project because it meets objectives that “focus residential density along transit supportive corridors, and to increase the diversity of housing forms and tenure in the core area.”
Currently, there are a few single and two dwelling homes on site. If this project is approved, it would eliminate four driveways off Harvey Avenue.
Kelowna City Council will consider this application during the regular meeting scheduled for Nov. 14 at 1:30 pm.
