Thats a wrap!: Center of Gravity closes out with a jam packed final day

Sunday was bitter sweet as festival goers bid farewell to Center of Gravity. A magical weekend filled with incredible performances you’d think that attendees would be all tuckered out by day three, but in fact, it was quite the opposite.

The morning saw the finals from all of the sporting events come to a head, where the athletes showcased their superior skills in beach volleyball, basketball, BMXing, Skateboarding and of course, free style motor cross.

To kick off day three, the main stage switched things up a bit, welcoming local DJ (and KelownaNow reporter) Maple Jordan to get things poppin’.

Australian electronic duo, Peking Duck was welcomed next with open arms by attendees. Coming out with strong vivacity, the two constantly jumped around behind the table.

Their bass packed sound had the audience in a frenzy, especially when they incorporated both Rage Against the Machine and the Beastie Boys into their set.

Dubstep producer and trap music extraordinaire, Borgore was up next to hit the stage. His mammoth sound had the whole crowd raging in the best possible way.

From the moment he hit the stage to the quick switch with Excision, Borgore did not let up and neither did the fans.

King of whomp, Excision, burst out guns blazing. His heavier than lead, bass covered tracks had your bones rambling and the crowd going harder than they had all weekend.

Looking out to the crowd you would have never known you were at an EDM festival as attendees were moshing and thrashing about in a way akin to what you’d see at a Slayer concert. The only thing that may have been louder than his glitch slathered dubstep was the screams of his fans.

Closing out what may have been C.O.G’s biggest year was none other than leading rapper, ScHoolBoy Q.

Opening his set with “Gangsta”, off of the foremost popular album Oxymoron, Q couldn’t have picked a better song to get things going. As soon as he hit the stage, the audience had a sort of unification about them that had previously been unseen throughout the weekend. Rapping along to every word, hands in the air, their energy was palpable and Q could feel it.

The sea of moving bodies never had a low tide, as they danced ferociously the whole time. The hype was real, and when you expected it couldn’t get any higher, the all familiar intro of “Collared Greens” shot out, and the crowd went insane.

Feeding off of Q’s vibes, fans emulated his every move. Jumping when he did and throwing their arms in the air it was hard not to get wrapped up in the hip hop artists lyrics and energizer-bunny like spirit as he covered every inch of the stage.

Performing a plethora of hot tracks from his latest album, Blankface LP, to covering Kendrick Lamar’s “Humble”, Q took the role of a closing act to Everest heights.

After a weekend of sheer musical madness, incredible sports and even better people, C.O.G attendees said goodbye to their home of the past three nights but know full well they can expect another wild weekend next year.
