For many, this weekend’s Okanagan Marathon will be the first step in their journey to the Boston Marathon.
It’s the race’s 25th anniversary and it’s once again a Boston qualifier, helping many get entry into one of the biggest marathons in the world.
It all goes down this coming weekend, Oct. 19 and 20, in downtown Kelowna.
"The longstanding local event draws runners and walkers of all abilities,” says a release from event organizers.
“Known for fast times and a Boston Qualifier, the course is flat and scenic and passes many notable Kelowna landmarks and parks, while enjoying the incredible views of Okanagan Lake.”
It starts and finishes in Kelowna’s City Park, with runners participating in three races of different lengths.
There’s the 10-kilometre event, the half marathon and, of course, the full marathon, which will all start at different times.
The marathon will begin at 7:40 am, followed by the half marathon at 8:10 am and finally the 10-kilometre event at 8:40 am.
On Saturday, there’s a family festival all morning long at City Park and also a 5-kilometre run and walk, which begins at 10:30 am.
