Hundreds of cyclists from across Western Canada will be celebrating Canada’s 150th anniversary in style by participating in the Okanagan Trestles Tour.
The fifth annual Okanagan Trestles Tour invites cyclists to ride along the historic Kettle Valley Rail Trail, starting at the famous Myra Canyon and going from Kelowna to Penticton.
The event is expected to attract over 500 cyclists from across Western Canada.
The distance is 80km, but cyclists can also opt to choose a 40km option starting at Chute Lake Resort and a 20 km option starting at Glenfir.
Although the 80km route is challenging with the average completion time estimated around 5.5 hours, the event is not just for professional cyclists.
Indeed, the ride is non-competitive and meant for people to have fun while riding past stunning views, multiple tunnels and flat planes.
Participants can take a breather at five different rest stops which will have an array of food and drinks available as well mechanical support and first aid on route.
Once cyclists arrive at the Penticton Lakeside Resort, they’ll be greeted with live music, a barbecue, beer, wine, cider and more.
The fifth annual Okanagan Trestle Tour is especially special this year, as on top of occurring during Canada’s 150th birthday and the official opening of the Trans Canada Trail, it will also mark the the 102th Anniversary of the completion of the Kettle Valley Railway and the 103rd anniversary of the completion of Myra Canyon trestles.
The event begins on Sunday, July 2nd.
