(Original Story) - The search begins for two missing Kelowna men at Boulder Mountain
A search has begun for two missing snowmobilers from Kelowna who were at Boulder Mountain in Revelstoke.
On Saturday, at about 4:30 p.m., RCMP were advised of two individuals who had not returned to the Boulder Mountain parking lot. They had rented two mountain snowmobiles from a local company and failed to return them at the arranged time.
The two missing men have been identified as Taylor Dumonceaux and Andrew Macleod, both 24-years-old.
From information obtained from their families and the fact their vehicle is still in the parking lot, RCMP confirmed the two men were still missing.
They are noted to have limited snowmobiling experience; had rented a flare kit and avalanche pack; and likely had no food, water or overnight equipment. Cell phone pings have been negative for the two men.
Revelstoke Search and Rescue began searching shortly after the report was received and was on Boulder Mountain searching for more than five hours. There was no last-known location for the males, although some information was received of the two being seen in an area on Boulder Mountain known as the Toilet Bowl.
Revelstoke Search and Rescue has requested and been granted the opportunity to close the mountain today to other recreational snowmobilers. This provides SAR a better opportunity to locate any persons or snowmobiles on the mountain. This has been done in the past with success. If this is not effective, other means, including the re-opening of the mountain will be considered.
Snowmobile access to Boulder Mountain located in Revelstoke will be closed on Sunday, while Revelstoke Search and Rescue attempts to locate two overdue snowmobilers. SAR helicopters will be utilized to locate the snowmobilers.
Updates will be provided as soon as received. Information from the public as to the whereabouts of Dumonceaux and Macleod is appreciated.
