People who like to visit Knox Mountain are being advised of a major construction project beginning next week.
The city says two phases of upgrades to the first lookout will begin on Monday, Mar. 18.
The first phase of the improvement work will require Knox Mountain Drive to be closed until mid-May, the city says in a release.
Phase one will see the creation of a new gathering space at the east end of the parking lot area.
According to the release, that will include a small plaza, stage, custom benches and natural area fencing.
Other upgrades to the first lookout will also include parking lot configuration improvements, accessibility enhancements and enhanced bike parking, the release says.
The first lookout structure will be closed during the first phase and some minor detours can be expected on the Apex Trail with detour signage in place.
The second phase is expected to begin in late 2024 or early 2025.
The second round of upgrades will include climate resilient landscaping, temporary irrigation and cultural interpretive features, the city’s release explains.
More details can be expected closer to when the second phase of work begins.
