A relatively unattractive concrete wall in the Landmark District in Kelowna is being transformed into an art piece.
It's a panorama showing wild horses running through an Okanagan landscape draped in dazzling spectral light.
This latest mural in Kelowna is big.
Very big.
"Right now, it's the biggest project we've done with the students but I'm pretty sure the square footage is the largest mural that we have in town," said UBCO Instructor David Doody.
He and his wife Jorden head up the project which puts the paint brushes in the hands of a team of art students, who have been at work on the project for a month now.
"It's a collaboration. It's great yeah," said student Victoria Verge.
"You're really a part of a team. And you're really making sure that you're working with one another, you're communicating with one another. It's a team sport."
The work on the wall begins with a much smaller version of the piece which is projected against the blank wall.
But there's a lot of artistic interpretation that takes place after the sketch is on the wall.
"We just have a lot of our main design elements in play knowing that the best development is in-person on the wall," explained Doody.
"We really try and encourage the students to partake in designing process."
The work will be seen by countless people once complete including drivers passing by the Landmark District on Harvey Avenue for years to come.
"We get thousands of views daily because of the traffic," he added. "So we get honks all the time."
Doody said murals change our perspective on art.
"We're hoping that it helps elevate and stimulate artistic and creative ideas."
It will be completed and officially "unveiled" Aug.17.
