It’s been in the making for just over four years.
Construction on Kelowna’s largest and tallest residential development is now underway, as Water Street by the Park breaks ground.
In the past few months, buildings along the north side of the 200 block of Leon Ave were reduced to rubble to make way for the three-tower development that will feature 650 residential condos and 45,000 sq. ft. of retail/ office space.
“The Eli, the second tower, will be the tallest tower between Surrey and Calgary which we’re very excited about,” said Orchard Park Properties Co-Founder, Anthony Beyrouti.
Currently, the tallest tower in Kelowna sits at 36 storeys at One Water Street, but the Eli is projected to top that skyscraper by six storeys. In total, the three towers will sit at 42, 28 and 24 stories above Kelowna's downtown.
Amenities of this project include a heated pool, two hot tubs, a fitness facility overlooking the lake, a golf simulator, an art studio and a theatre room.
When Orchard Park Properties first proposed the development to City Council, they received tremendous support and it was passed in a 7-2 vote.
“Everybody's really excited to see this project come to fruition, building 650 units in a community that is really struggling on the supply side of the housing is so, so important to us,” said City Councillor, Gale Given
“Of course this area of town we have long since hoped to see a re-development happen.”
A presale event last summer for the first phase of the project saw 144 condos sold out in just 48 hours.
The first building in the mixed-use development is estimated to be complete sometime in 2025.
