Police have confirmed that a multi-vehicle crash at a busy Kelowna intersection over the weekend was fatal.
According to the Kelowna RCMP, a pedestrian was killed as a result of the crash between two vehicles at the intersection of Harvey Avenue and Burtch Road around 3:15 pm on Saturday.
“The victim was a 33-year-old female living in Kelowna at the time of the collision,” said Sgt. Laura Pollock. “We offer our sincerest condolences to the family of the victim.”
Police say the drivers of both vehicles remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, and were eventually transported to hospital with undisclosed injuries.
Although neither driver was suspected to be impaired, the RCMP says “speed was a factor in the collision.”
An RCMP reconstructionist was called to the crash scene and the fatal collision remains under investigation at this time.
"We wish to express our sincere appreciation to the individuals who stopped to render assistance at the scene,” Pollock added.
Pollock says the RCMP’s Victim Services team has been activated to provide “compassionate and professional assistance” to anyone affected by this incident.
The RCMP is turning to the public in hopes of speaking with additional witnesses and collecting dash cam or surveillance footage that could be relevant to the investigation.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Kelowna RCMP detachment at 250-762-3300 and quote file number 2025-35133.
