There will soon be 86 child care spaces available at Kelowna International Airport (YLW).
The Province has announced that it will provide $3 million from the ChildCare BC New Spaces Fund toward the Kelowna Airport YMCA child care facility.
YLW will partner with the City of Kelowna, KF Aerospace and the YMCA to provide this child care facility at the airport.
“It’s exciting that parents working in and around the Kelowna airport will soon have access to convenient child care right on-site to make their lives easier and give them peace of mind knowing their kids are accessing early learning close by,” said Katrina Chen, minister of state for child care.
The Province said the new facility will enable the creation of new licenced child care, helping families access quality, affordable and inclusive child care while strengthening the local community.
Here’s how the 86 spaces will break down:
Airport Director Sam Samaddar expressed excitement over collaboration with KF Aerospace and the YMCA to provide this new child care facility.
"As the airport community continues to grow, there will be increased demand for a child care facility on our campus,” he explained.
“This child care facility will support the unique staffing requirements of the airport campus and the greater community.”
Groundbreaking for the Kelowna Airport YMCA child care facility, which will be fully programmed and managed by the YMCA Okanagan, will take place later this year.
It’s anticipated to open in spring 2023.
