OC Coyotes cruise to pair of wins over CBC

The Okanagan College Coyotes eased into the 2019 portion of their PACWEST men’s basketball schedule on the weekend with a pair of victories over the winless Canadian Bible College Bearcats.

<who>Photo Credit: Lorne White/KelownaNow </who>Christian Williams of the OC Coyotes grabs one of seven rebounds against CBC on Saturday.With all 12 players scoring at least two points, the Coyotes opened the two-game set at Kelowna Secondary School with a 101-88 win on Friday while 10 players chipped in as OC improved to 4-4 in its inaugural season by defeating CBC 67-61 on Saturday.

Curtis Wilson scored 19 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead the Coyotes in the opener while Immaculata High School grad, Michael Gini, found net on five of 11 three-point shots for his 15 points. Matt Lafontaine, running the same court on which he starred for the Kelowna Owls in high school, chipped in with 14 points, six of which came from beyond the arc.

<who>Photo Credit: Lorne White/KelownaNow </who>OC Coyotes' Michael Gini scored 15 points in the first game and added another seven in Game 2.The Coyotes took a 26-19 lead in the first quarter and were ahead 58-51 at the half. They pulled away in the third quarter outscoring the Bearcats 26-16.

On Saturday, OC again utilized its entire lineup, with 10 of the 12 Coyotes making a mark on the scoresheet.

<who>Photo Credit: Lorne White/KelownaNow </who>Trajan Boyd of the OC Coyotes connected for three treys in Friday's win over CBC.Hunter Hughes, a 6’7” White Rock (Southridge Secondary) product, was one of only three Coyotes to reach double digits, finishing with 13 points while grabbing a team-high 13 rebounds, 12 of which came on defence.

Mt. Boucherie Bears grad, Jeff Tubbs, hit for two treys on the way to a 12-point performance while Lafontaine also connected for a pair of threes in a 10-point effort.

The first of two encounters goes on Friday beginning at 8 p.m. at Immaculata High School while the two teams will play again on Saturday at Immaculata starting at noon.

Meanwhile, the OC women (5-3) will also play a pair of games against VIU (9-1). The first is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday at Immaculata and the second for 10 a.m. on Saturday, also at Immaculata.
