Warriors struggles continue with Tuesday night loss to Silverbacks

It’s been a tough start to the regular season for the West Kelowna Warriors.

Their struggles continued on Tuesday as the Salmon Arm Silverbacks had their way with the visiting Warriors at the Shaw Centre.

Led by a pair of goals from Noah Wakeford, Salmon Arm pounded West Kelowna 6-1 in front of 652 fans.

Coalson Wolford and Simon Tassy would give the Silverbacks a 2-0 lead in the first, but Max Bulawka cut that lead in half in the final 60 seconds of the opening frame.

The second period was nearly a scoreless one but Wakeford managed to find the back of the net with six seconds to play to restore that two goal lead.

In the third, Wakeford and company blew it wide open as the forward’s seventh goal of the season was accompanied by goals from Josh Zinger and William Poirier to make it 6-1.

Brock Baier can hardly be blamed for the last, but he was pulled midway through the third period after letting in five goals on 41 shots.

Johnny Derrick made eight saves on nine shots in just over nine minutes of relief work.

In the Salmon Arm crease, Ethan Langenegger made 28 saves on 29 shots to secure his sixth win of the season.

West Kelowna (1-8-2-0) is back in action on Friday, Oct. 4 as they will face off against the Prince George Spruce Kings in Penticton, part of the league’s annual Showcase Festival.
