A couple of weeks of fundraising and a long standup paddleboard has raised more than $16,000 for the Okanagan Rail Trail.

Brittney Page, Kristin Postill and 12 friends standup paddleboarded the length of Kalamalka Lake on Saturday, both raising money and creating awareness for the rail trail.

A beautiful day, calm waters and a light summer breeze made for a tranquil paddle, the same experience the rail trail will offer to cyclists, runners and walkers.

"We are so humbled for the support we received not only from friends but also the local community on this challenge,” said Postill. “Saturday had such good vibes and that’s fully because of the people who came out to support both on and off paddleboards.”

The event was such a success, that Page and Postill are thinking about making it an annual excursion, choosing a community initiative or charitable cause to support each year.

"It is our intention to capture and keep momentum on this event to help support a new cause each year,” Page said. “Hopefully year over year, we’ll gain more paddlers and awareness to local causes and it will become a tentpole event each summer in the North Okanagan.”

Page and Postill say they’re grateful for all the generous donations from individuals and businesses who support active and healthy lifestyles.
