Passionate nursing students at UBC Okanagan are once again banding together to raise funds for an important cause.
The 10th annual Global Gala will return for an evening of socializing, philanthropy and networking, all while raising funds for the Okanagan Zambia Health Initiative (OkaZHI) along with their Ghanian and Zambian partners.
One hundred per cent of the proceeds from the gala will be divided up evenly between OkaZHI and it's other Zambian and Ghanaian counterparts, to support local health initiatives
That includes purchasing medical equipment, supporting outreach clinics, partnering in education and providing basic health-related resources within the communities its members serve.
Attendees can expect to enjoy a fun and formal evening, featuring a decadent three-course dinner and an exciting live auction featuring some big-ticket items.
With it being a milestone year for the event, the itinerary will focus on the immense work and accomplishments achieved over the last decade, as well as retelling the experiences of the UBCO nurses who have participated in the past and what is to come in the future.
“I believe the work that we do in Zambia and Ghana is very important. Over the years, the UBCO School of Nursing and OkaZHI have built lasting partnerships with the people in the communities we help. Relationships based on equality, mutual learning, and capacity building,” said event organizer, Elyse Acheson.
“The Kelowna community’s support over the last 10 years has been so valuable to us, the Gala has a direct positive influence on the communities that we partner with and we have been able to see many changes in these communities.”
The Gala is set to take place on Friday, Nov. 23 at the Delta Grand.
Tickets are $135 and available through Eventbrite.
