Rutland May Days is in full swing and with it comes a host of activities!
This weekend is a milestone for the community event as it marks 60 years since the inaugural May Day celebration.
To commemorate six decades of springtime fun, community members in abundance are flocking to Roxby Square to enjoy various midway rides and games, delicious snacks from local vendors, live entertainment and more.
The fun kicked off with the opening of the midway on Friday afternoon before launching into the most anticipated festivity of the event — the annual May Days Parade.
Welcoming various community clubs, organizations and businesses, the parade saw nearly 40 floats make their way down Rutland Road on Saturday morning.
Perhaps more impressive than the number of eager parade participants were the hundreds of spectators who waved and cheered for every float that passed them by.
Though most attendees dreaded the grim forecast expected to sweep the Okanagan, today brought with it only small sprinkles of rain and some much-needed breaks of sunshine — adding to the positive atmosphere provided by the beloved event.
If you have yet to pay a visit to Roxby Square don't fret, there is still plenty of time! The midway is on until 10 p.m. tonight with more entertainment, market vendors and rides returning from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
