Big White sees quite the sprinkling of snow

This morning’s heavy rain in the valley should excite skiers and snowboarders.

Although ski season is a few weeks away, anyone who looks at the Big White webcams will see a good amount of snow has fallen at the top of the mountain.

Freezing levels fell to around 2,000 metres this morning, which meant the snow is not only falling, but also sticking at the top of Big White.

According to NowMedia meteorologist Wesla English, however, some of that snow will start to melt away over the course of the day.

The bullet cam is at an elevation of 2,195m and the freezing level is supposed to climb back towards 2,500m.

As a result, the precipitation will likely change to rain and ease off for local mountains by this afternoon.

English says Silver Star also received snow this morning, but the resort's webcams are currently down.
