The Green Party has a candidate in Kelowna-Lake Country.
Travis Ashley was announced as the party’s candidate for this fall’s federal election in the Central Okanagan-based riding.
A Green Party supporter since he was 14, Ashley called it “an absolute honour” to win the nomination and spread the word of the party.
“I carefully conducted my research and, at the age of 14, I realized that my political views paralleled that of The Greens,” he said.
“I have been a true believer and supporter ever since I was able to make that evidence-based decision.”
Ashley grew up in Falkland with chickens, horses, goats and geese and says he’s also had “many majestic encounters” with animals like cougars and bears in the wild.
“I once encountered the Caribou, a local species that has now gone extinct in the South Okanagan, and I heard their cries as they walked on in the high snowy mountains of Falkland,” said Ashley.
He’s a father of two and has interest in hiking, biking, kayaking, drawing and music.
His campaign will be focused on three main issues in fiscal responsibility, social justice and ecological integrity for the Okanagan and beyond.
Ashley also expressed concern for the difficulties that young adults face trying to enter the housing market and the lack of resources and social services for those trying to beat addiction.
