Police in the North Okanagan are looking to reunite the ashes of a cremated person that were found on a popular hiking trail with their rightful owner.
According to RCMP, on Oct. 15, a resident was walking on the BX Falls train in Vernon when they found a broken urn. The urn contained a bag of what is believed to be cremated human remains.
Upon arrival, officers found the bag that also held pieces of a broken, decorative box.
"At this time, it is unclear how the items ended up here, however, based on the location, and the manner in which they were found, police do not believe this was the intended resting place for the remains," Stated Cst. Chris Terleski. "The container has deteriorated after being exposed to the elements, however, we are hoping the unique pattern printed on the lid, depicted in the photographed, will be recognized and someone will come forward."
Anyone who knows where these remains belong is urged to contact North Okanagan RCMP at (250)545-7171.
