UPDATE: Police ask residents to look under their porches in search for Okanagan senior

(UPDATE: Jan. 4 @ 5:15 am): Mounties are now asking Coldstream residents to look under their porches and inside bushes for an 83-year-old man who was last seen on Tuesday morning.

Police have been searching for Robert Lee Baines, who has Alzheimer's, since he went missing at about 6 am on Jan. 2.

He was last seen at his home on Ponderosa Way.

"Despite all efforts that have been undertaken, including an extensive ground search of Kalamalka Park that included RCMP and Vernon Search and Rescue resources, Mr. Baines has not been located," said Cst. Chris Terleski.

"We are now asking residents in the area of Ponderosa Way and the red and yellow gate areas of Kalamalka Park to review home security footage if they have it and thoroughly check their properties for any sings of Mr. Baines.

"Look under porches, under and inside all bushes, hedges, etc., and check any outbuildings such as sheds or garages, as well as boats and recreational vehicles."

Baines was last seen wearing a green Tilley hat, green jacket, grey undershirt, blue jeans and white hiking shoes.

Anyone with information about where Baines could be is asked to call police.


(Original story: Jan. 3 @ 5:45 am): Mounties are searching for a missing Okanagan man who was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.

Robert Lee Baines, who is 83, was last seen on Tuesday morning at his home in Ponderosa Way, Coldstream.

He may appear “confused or disoriented” when approached, police warned.

His family said that, given his medical condition, they are concerned for his wellbeing.

Police provided the following description of Baines:

  • 5 ft 9 in

  • 200 lbs

  • Bald

  • Brown eyes

He was last seen wearing a green Tilley hat, green jacket, grey undershirt, blue jeans and white hiking shoes.

Anyone with information about where Baines could be is asked to call police.
