A man has been arrested after grabbing an employee while holding a weapon during an attempted robbery in Vernon.

The employee managed to disarm the man, who is 63, and hold him until police arrived.

It happened in the 3300 block of 32nd Avenue on Jan. 16 at about 1:15 pm.

Police said the man approached staff at the rear of the business before grabbing an employee.

Mounties arrived within minutes of the 911 call, Cpl Tania Finn said.

She added: "The suspect was arrested without further incident."

The employee suffered only minor injuries, police added.

The arrested man, who is from Coldstream, has been charged with one count of assault with a weapon.
