Smile Cycle Tours brings joy to the streets of Kelowna

Much like how Kelowna’s beauty is hard to miss as you drive over the bridge, it’s easy to see the good time being had when Smile Cycle Tours cruises down the street.

With up to 15 people powering one bicycle, or to be specific a quadricycle, Smile Cycle Tours is the cities most innovative way to take a tour of Kelowna’s beautiful scenery, microbreweries and great local shops.

“What I’ve seen in my short time operating Smile Cycle Tours is when we come down the road you see people's eyes light up,” said owner Stuart Lang.

“For someone who was born and raised in Kelowna, it’s an amazing way to take my love for the city and translate it into something I think is bringing happiness and positivity to our community.”

While Lang is not alone in his love for Kelowna, he is certainly unique in his ablility to share his love via a quadricycle.

The bike itself is an invention out of Amsterdam, which is a city known for having more bikes than cars.

“When I was 18 I was in Berlin on a student exchange and saw the quadricycle coming down the road and thought wow those guys are having fun,” laughed Lang.

“It’s a great way for people to see Kelowna’s views, learn about its history, check out local shops and I really like how it has an active element that is truly embraced in our community.”

Smile Cycle Tours is a great way to keep the legs in shape while exploring Kelowna, but the tours are also guaranteed to keep the environment in good shape as well.

“Going on a tour is a great way for people to have fun exploring without having a negative impact on the environment,” said Lang.

“There’s even a 100 watt solar panel on the bike that allows us to charge our battery that powers all the bikes electronics, so we're very green and a true eco-tourism business.”

Smile Cycle Tours is just beginning its inaugural summer in Kelowna and the company is excited to be entering the city’s tourism business at a time when the local craft brewery scene is really picking up steam.

“So many local businesses that are really doing great things and our excellent local breweries are fantastic examples of this,” explained Lang.

“Smile Cycle Tours is carved very uniquely in the cycle tourism space, the brew tour space and also in the way we give tours, people want to know Kelowna itself and its business and this is a great way to learn about that in an active way.”

One of the key elements of the quadricycle that make it a perfect vehicle for something like a tour of Kelowna’s craft breweries is the social aspect of the ride. The two hour tour takes a minimum of eight people to make the ride as easy as possible but also to encourage active lively discussion.

“We're all about fun and engaging interactive tours,” said Lang.

“It’s a short two hour experience but I’m sure if you come along with a bunch of friends you'll talk about it for a while.”
