Canadians unable to catch Germany in 7.5 km Sprint

Laura Dahlmeier gave Germany its first gold medal of the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics when she placed first in the women's 7.5-kilometre sprint early today.

Canadian biathletes, Emma Lunder, Julia Ransom, Rosanna Crawford and Megan Tandy also competed in the 7.5 km Sprint.

However, despite all efforts, they weren't able to finish in the top of the pack.

Ransom of West Kelowna placed 40th among 87 competitors and was the top Canadian and North American.

The Canadians stuck together on the track with Crawford in 53rd, Lunder 54th and Tandy in 57th.

Dahlmeier of Germany was minutes ahead of the pack with a winning time of 21:06.2. Marte Olsbu of Norway placed second and Veronika Vitkova from the Czech Republic finished third.

Dahlmeier, 24, is a seven-time biathlete World Champion. This is her first Olympic medal and the first medal of the Pyeongchang 2018 Olympics.

All four Canadian competitors qualified for the 10 km pursuit on Monday beginning at 2:10 a.m. PT.
