One person is dead following an accident on the Okanagan Connector on November 16th, 2015.
According to police, around 1:30 p.m. on Monday, a 2003 Ford Expedition collided on Highway 97C with a commercial vehicle carrying cars. The accident occurred approximately 14 kilometres east of Merritt and the Central Interior Traffic Services, Merritt Fire Rescue, and BC Ambulance Service were called to the scene.
The 44-year-old male driver of the Expedition was declared dead at the scene. The man has not been identified but police confirm he was from Penticton. The other occupants of two vehicles were not injured.
According to witnesses, the driver of the Expedition lost control of his vehicle on a very slippery and snow covered part of the highway. He crossed into the eastbound lanes of traffic when it struck the loaded car carrier. A third vehicle was also involved in the crash as it was unable to stop in time to avoid the crash scene.
The highway was closed for seven hours as a result of the accident.
